Flashback Friday – Little Drummer Boy

Today we flash back to last week. Yeah, not that far, but hey.

Matt is now a freshman in high school. Ack. He is also playing in the marching band. It brought a lump to my throat when I saw my little boy all dressed up in his band uniform. Oh, that little boy is now 5’11” tall. Double-ack.

Let’s not forget about my trusted sidekick, Mackenzie. She helps me elevate the per football game photo count to well over 300 images. We can’t help ourselves.

Our neighborhood is across the street from the high school. After last week’s football game, I asked Matt to give me a call when he was ready for me to pick him up. I began to worry when I hadn’t heard from him long after the game ended. So I called him.

Me: “Are you ready yet?”
Matt: “Yes.”
Me: “I’ll come get you now.”
Matt: “Oh, I’m almost home.”
Me: “What??”
Matt: “Yeah, I just decided to walk home.” (In the pitch black, all alone, in a neighborhood where teenage drivers like to zoom by in their parents’ cars.)

When Matt finally arrived home, I was struck by his amazing fashion sense. I am proud to say that my 14-year old son has totally relaxed his former freak-outed-ness regarding how others may view his choice of attire. That is SO 13-year old.

I laughed my butt off. And so did he. Aw, he’s growing up.

He's rocking those socks!! Wow! He is tall. He would be patting me on the head, I'm sure. My 13 year old is my same height. He can't wait to pass me. The band costume looks great. Love your song today!

lol! LOVE the attire! I, too, have a 14 year old freshman, but he is barely 5' - they are so different at that age!
Love the flash back to last week - it flashed me back to my now Junior his freshman year in the marching band (his uniform was nowhere near this cool, boring wind suits)
