Long Hot Summer

Well, it appears that I have let several weeks pass by without posting to my blog. Oooops. I’ve just been living summer. So much has happened, and so little has happened. Typical life.

This crazy, busy, action-packed summer all started in mid-May when we finished remodeling our kitchen. I never showed you the results.

Here’s the Before:

Here’s the During. What a mess.

Here’s the After. Way different, huh?

Then, only days later, we had family in town for Alia’s college graduation.

Next, vacation for 12 days. Yeah, I know, I posted these pix for weeks. And weeks.

A few shorts weeks later, we packed up the Mommy Wagon and headed to Castleberry, Alabama. We are a wild bunch, for sure. My sister, nephew, the kids, Doug & I paid a quick visit to my grandmother and her sister. These girls are 90 and 93.

We asked what they might like to do while we were there. They wanted to go have dinner at “just about the best place around.” Grandma and Aunt Edna Mae wanted to go to the casino in Atmore to eat at the seafood buffet and gamble. My uncle sent The Girls a little cash to have some fun. Do you have any idea how long a grandma can sit at a penny slot machine? Neither did I.

My great aunt is holding a pay out ticket of .26. I know. We put it into a CD on our way out.

The next day we picked blueberries at a relative’s huge blueberry farm. Just before we set out to go picking, Grandma said, “Watch for snakes.” What the heck?!?!?! I am terrified of snakes, by the way.

No worries. No snakes. But we did meet these little doggies.

And we sweated like little piggies while we picked tons and tons and tons of blueberries.

As if all this wasn’t enough to make you gasp at the awesomeness of my summer, I went to Alabama AGAIN the following month. This time for a scrapbook retreat at a bed and breakfast in Arab, Alabama. Yes, I had never heard of it either.

It was very relaxing, and the food was really good.

We laughed so hard at times that I had to make everyone stop talking so I could run to the bathroom because I was about to pee my pants from laughing. Yes, that is the sign of a truly good time.

Believe it or not, Mackenzie had a birthday in the middle of all this. How is my baby already 17 years old???? I’m not ready.

Mackenzie asked me, yes her Mother, to go to a Green Day concert with her. I know, I’m still in awe. My teenaged daughter wanted MOI to attend a concert with her…in public. I know. We had a blast even though it was about 100˚ - no joke.

1 - Before the show

We stood during most of the show.

To top off our super exciting, pretty damn hot and boiling summer of outrageous fun, our downstairs A/C decided to give up the ghost early in July. We finally got it replaced last week. We are so cool. No really, it’s cool in here now.

It was an expensive delivery. I feel the need to send out birth announcements.

So. Here we are. About to start school again. I’m not ready. I am never ready emotionally. Kids, bear with your mom this week. It’s gonna be a toughy.

I’m back tomorrow. I am so ready to post more regularly. Boy do I have things to talk about. Well, maybe not, but I’ll certainly fake it. See ya!

Can you recap your summer in a few sentences? Do it here. I dare you.

Your new kitchen is to die for!

You've had quite the busy summer.

My summer? HOT, HUMID, WET, and, thankfully, uneventful.

My summer recap: Lots of pool. Lots of crazy kids!

Green Girl in Wisconsin

Sweaty, swimming, running and watching baseballs roll across the baseline while eating a grilled hot dog and drinking a cold beer.

WOW! You have had a busy summer. Seems like the summer of the blog hiatus. I haven't posted much either. There just hasn't been time. Too busy living in the now to write, I guess. Kitchen looks GORGEOUS! Enjoy the little bits of summer that are left!

So glad to see you back with stuff to say.
I wish I still had some Grandmas. You lucky girl!
Wow! Arab, Alabama? And they don't think you are a terrorist for going there??
I immediately wanted some of that fried stuff on your plate! I don't even know what it is but it looked like good fried stuff. You know, not too greasy. Some strawberries afterward to wash the grease away.
I wish I could scrapbook with y'all. I can tell it is a fun group. Maybe some day...
So glad to see the kitchen remodel. You have left us hanging for months. I like the sagey green color of the walls.
Oh, and I have a couple of Green Day cds. You tell Mackenzie how cool I am. And that is so super cool she invited you.
My summer: cool weather, not much shorts wearing, 3 days of 100 degree weather this week, 2 nights in a row cooking veggies on the grilll.
