That’s Some Cold Water

Back to my regular blogging. All those vacation pix – I just couldn’t resist sharing a lot of them. But hey, we’re doing other stuff this summer, so here we go.

A couple of weeks ago, Matt left for the last half of summer with his dad. I always miss him when he is gone. I don’t like to wish my time away, but I certainly am happy when I get to see my boy again. Soon enough.

I wanted to do something fun with Mackenzie. It has been treacherously hot, so I decided we would go tubing. No better way to cool off. We discovered a $10 tubing place about 10 minutes from our house.

Even if we ended up hating it, what’s 10 bucks? Mackenzie invited her boyfriend.

I invited myself. (Doug was working).

On our way to this $10 tubing place only 10 minutes from our house, I stopped at three, count ‘em, three drugstores looking for a single-use waterproof camera. Nada. Zilch. Zero. Not a single camera to be found. Huh? I finally purchased a plastic food container which I used to store my teeny, tiny digital spy camera. I couldn’t go without pix (does this surprise you?), but I was a little leery about using my costs-more-than-$15 digital camera. Oh well. I gave it a shot. Shot, get it, photo, shot? Okay, whatever.

Are you like us with the scorchingly hot summer thing going on? Last year, the rain wouldn’t stop. This year, the rain can’t seem to find us. Well……..as soon as our bus driver dropped us off, and as soon as we put sunscreen all over ourselves, and as soon as we dipped our toes into the 65˚ water (I am NOT joking here), the bottom fell out. We’re talking really hard rain. We got out of the water for a minute, but then realized how comical this was. We plopped ourselves into the tubes and shoved off in the icy water. Since I could NOT find a single waterproof, I did NOT get a picture of this downpour. The teeny tiny spy camera was NOT coming out of its safe harbor.

Okay, anyway. Once we got on our merry way, the rain stopped and the fog set in. It was so funky looking. It was weird to hear the people behind us but not see them.

Even though the water was COLD, our two hour tour was quite amusing. The teens particularly enjoyed it.

So did The Mom.

I seriously want to do this again. So relaxing.

And then we were done.

Have you ever been tubing down such a lazy river? Was the water so cold that your feet turned purple like mine? Do you have a waterproof digital camera?

That looks like serious fun. It is hilarious that after all that time of no rain, it rains when you are trying to do something to cool off. And hesitating because it's raining lol.

Enjoyed your vacay pictures. Such fun!

What a pretty river ride--esp. with the mist!
I just heard about a waterproof case you can use for digital cameras & phones and whatnot...that might be what you need!

I haven't seen a waterproof camera since I was in Hawaii...er...6 Summers ago.

I did enjoy tubing a lot when I was younger, it was a Summer MUST in California.

Looks like you had a good time!

In case your kids don't tell you often enough, you are the most amazing mom!!

Nope, never been tubing, ever. Also, any water that is colder than 100F is too cold for this gal. Plus, I don't swim. ;>

Hope the time flies and Matt will be back again quickly!

That looks like fun! I want to try, I want to try, I want to try. That's my impression of what my 7 year old would say if he saw these pictures :)

Can't say I've ever been tubing. Sure looks like you all had a good time.
My hubs and son had a weekend of crabbing and canoeing recently but those activities aren't my thing so I hung out at the bookstore. LOL

scrappysue

that must be the weirdest sensation: 100 deg outside and freezing cold water! looks so peaceful tho
